Post-earthquake building assessments

چکیده

Major seismic events occurring around urban centres often cause widespread damage to the building stock. Engineers are then required perform safety inspections of these buildings. This process may be time-consuming and can residents or businesses displaced for a considerable duration even if is safe occupy. Furthermore, other post-earthquake recovery phases, such as repair demolition/reconstruction works, not initiate until inspection phase complete. As such, disruptions caused by need considered when modelling occupancy/functionality downtime. study uses data obtained from 2011 Christchurch earthquake develop quantification model. Firstly, rapid assessment estimated number damaged buildings assessed, total available engineers, median time needed assessing each building. Secondly, probability being assigned certain colour tag (White, Yellow Red) derived based on extent damage. Finally, both sets information combined quantify duration. A case examined demonstrate application proposed

Building Damage Detection from Post-earthquake

The collapsed buildings due to earthquake were detected from post-event aerial images using watershed segmentation algorithm. The objective was to detect the collapsed buildings based on the analysis of the cast shadows. The building boundaries were available and stored in a GIS as vector polygons. The building polygons were utilized to perform assessments in a building specific manner. The app...

An Analysis Method on Post-earthquake Traversability of Road Network Considering Building Collapse

This study aims at quantifying the influence on the traversability of road network of road network caused by building collapse in earthquake. To this end, an analysis method on post-earthquake traversability of road network considering building collapse is proposed. First, the time-history analysis of seismic response based on the multi-degree of freedom (MDOF) model is performed for regional b...

Building Earthquake Damage Information Extraction from a Single Post-Earthquake PolSAR Image

After an earthquake, rapidly and accurately obtaining building damage information can help to effectively guide the implementation of the emergency rescue and can reduce disaster losses and casualties. Using a single post-earthquake fully-polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (PolSAR) image to interpret building damage information not only involves a guaranteed data source but is also easy and ...

Building Better Environmental Risk Assessments

Risk assessment is a reasoned, structured approach to address uncertainty based on scientific and technical evidence. It forms the foundation for regulatory decision-making, which is bound by legislative and policy requirements, as well as the need for making timely decisions using available resources. In order to be most useful, environmental risk assessments (ERAs) for genetically modified (G...

Assessment of the Contribution of Crowd Sourced Data to Post-Earthquake Building Damage Detection

This article compares the results of building damage detection based on Crowd Sourced (CS) data, image processing of remotely sensed (RS) data and predictive modelling with institutional spatial data (Spatial Data Infrastructure SDI). In particular, it focuses on the contribution of Crowd Sourcing to detecting postearthquake building damages, while also considering the integration of Crowd Sour...
